An Honest Opinion About The iPhone From A Young Professional
What follows is one young professional's opinion of the iPhone.
This may not be the 'traditional' way to learn of a new product,
but this is valuable information nonetheless. First, it explains
why, even with all of its benefits, some people are not quite ready
to get an iPhone. Second, it is put forth as though an honest
friend was telling you exactly what they think. You will notice
there is no hype as you read this article.
"In my world of mandatory, instant communication and a strong
desire to be connected at all times, it is natural to want
convenience. This seems to be what the new iPhone offers. I cannot
count the number of times my phone has not offered the connectivity
I need. Or the number of times my Pocket PC would not connect to
retrieve an important e-mail. Or the number of times that the
version of the webpage I needed on my Pocket PC would not support
my needs. I cannot count the number of times my notebook was not
practical for transport, or not in a hot spot to communicate in
real time.
All of these functions are supported by the iPhone. About the only
thing it doesn’t do is play DVDs, but then again, it doesn’t play
8-track tapes either. It does, however have the capability to play
streaming video, which would allow for watching movies or
work-related programs. This is what I need. An all-in-one media
device that will allow me to upload my Power Point locate my
meeting destination on a map, and then call ahead by displaying the
destination’s Web page, simply by clicking on the phone number
provided.
The bonus features of an iPod, which I have never owned, but have
been curious about would be interesting and make this already
complete device more fun. One of the things I look for in
technology is how long it will take me to use it effectively, that
is, it is user friendly. But, I also look for those
advanced
features that keep the technology new as I learn to unlock all of
the potential. Kind of like Microsoft Excel; it is an incredible
tool that is user friendly, but still has characteristics and
applications I may never learn.
So many times I have wanted to call ahead, but did not have
access to a phonebook. It has never been my practice to call
information to get a number, because the service usually is
substandard and takes too much time.
The iPhone offers a solution
to that as well. This magnificent machine has two downfalls that I
can see. Number one, I will never use AT&T or a company that
has ever had anything to do with Cingular wireless; they provided
me with the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Number
two, though I realize there is a cost for convenience, I am not
ready to drop $500-$650 for an item that is too easily damaged,
lost or stolen.
You can bet that when the price comes down, and the range of
carriers includes something remotely acceptable, I will be sporting
this new technology and saving time at every turn. I am impressed
with the capabilities, but they do not yet outweigh the
compromises".
Refurbished iPhone 8GB.
