Your iPhone Multimedia Guide

The iPhone is a multi-media cell phone that can browse the
internet. That is a fairly simple definition as those are only the
main features. One of the things that really sets the iPhone apart
is its multi-media capabilities. In this article you will be able
to see some of what the iPhone has to offer in the regard of
multi-media features.
Music on the iPhone
With a name like iPhone it is not hard to imagine that the
device would fully integrate the iPod. As a digital audio player,
the iPod is now the standard by which all others have been judged.
Adding it to the iPhone was considered by some to be a gamble.
Well, Apple won that bet. The iPhone takes all of the good stuff
the iPod has to offer and then adds to it.
There is the touchscreen that allows you to select a specific
point in the track you are listening to. Then there is the 3.5 inch
video screen which makes "flipping" through your albums as gorgeous
as it is fun. With the iPhone you can now browse through your music
by it's cover - just like you would a physical record collection.
To do this you have to be in music mode. Then simply rotate the
iPhone 90 degrees to the landscape orientation. It will
automatically switch to the flipping mode.
Video on the iPhone
While the iPod is best known as a digital music player, some of
the more recent models also have
video capabilities. However, this
was somewhat limited by the size of the viewing screen. The iPhone
has a sufficiently sized 3.5 inch viewing screen making it more
rich and detailed than just about any cellphone on the market. It
is also a full one inch larger than the 2.5 inch screen on the iPod
Video.
It is possible to download your DVDs to the iPhone with third
party software. You have to be cautious when doing this. So be sure
to only use products from a trusted provider. Apple does have a
selection of movies available for download through its iPod video
service.
Still Images on the iPhone
Most people know that the iPhone has a music player, cellphone
and web browser built in. What many do not know is that it also has
a built in 2.0 megapixel digital camera. This is a nice feature,
but it is a bit limited. It is a simple point and shoot camera with
no flash, zoom or live video recording. However, with the large
viewing screen your pictures come to life.
You can also upload pictures to your iPhone for viewing. You can
organize these into a folders, set them as wallpaper or even
associate them with people in your phone book. For example, if your
mother calls you, a picture of her will pop up.
All of these features combined make the iPhone a great gadget
with many uses. With so much in one unit most users would be
confounded by all of the menus and lists and files. Not with the
iPhone. The touchscreen is fairly intuitive, fun and easy to
learn.
